Awards
& Fun Day 2009
Saturday 6th June 2009
Despite forecasts of a gloomy and wet afternoon, the 6th Annual
Awards turned out to be a great fun day for all concerned and the
weather actually wasn’t that bad after all!!
The afternoon event kicked off with an “It’s a knockout”
challenge with five teams of children and parents taking part in
a range of fun games including the Banana Race which had everyone
doing the splits! The catch was that in each event the team coming
in last got a soaking in the stocks and yes Paul, Steve and Joe
all had their turn getting wet.
Half way through the players were all presented with their Annual
Player Award to recognise their contribution to the club for the
2008/09 season. It was then time for a bar-b-q cooked up by Steve
French and Terry Cox with loads of salads and other goodies prepared
by some of the parents all very ably organised by Elaine French.
It was then time for the presentation of some fun awards including
the “The Offside Award” - For services to assistant
referees presented to Emma Bradick from the U14s; The Loudest Coach
Award: For services to the hearing aid industry given to Martin
Perkins; and the The Smallest Player Award: For services to the
clothing industry presented to Ellen Pilcher! Abi and Zoe were also
presented with special edition club shirts as they are leaving the
club and going to Australia – they will be missed!!
The Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Elaine French
for all her hard work over the season and finally Sarah Mingaye,
who is sadly stepping down at the AGM received a special engraved
clock to commemorate her time with the club.
There was then a parent’s match and the evening closed with
the Special Achievement Awards (see below for full details). Overall
it was a fantastic afternoon for everyone involved. Thank you to
everyone for their help in putting the event on. Just one sad note,
Terry Cox unfortunately broke his leg during the Parents match.
Good luck Terry and get well soon.
