The 2007/8 season saw the Club contine with four age groups
at Under 10, Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 and several of
our players continuing to play for Brighton School of Excellence.
Martin Perkins obtained his FA Level 2 coaching qualification
and became the Under 11's coach alongside Sarah Mingaye as
the U11 team manager. The Under 11's blossomed with the combination
of new players coming up from the former Under 10's and started
the seaon brightly with three straight wins and then they
came up against much stronger opposition whereby they encountered
some tough games which came with enevitable defeats. However,
they reached the semi-final of the Challenge Cup, only to
go out to a strong Pevensey team. Final position in the league
was a very respectable fourth.
Steve Bradick made the decision to stand down at the start
of the season and so Joe Letang and Paul Cartwright became
joint managers for the Under 13's in their first year playing
eleven a-side football. The girls began their first league
game with an exciting game and a win, however they had to
wait a while for another win before finishing off the season
with a great game and win against league challengers Eastbourne
Borough. Final league position was eighth.
Steve Phythian continued as the Under 15's manager, but we
welcomed Steve Walder as the assistant coach for this age
agroup. It was a difficult season with sometimes only being
able to field eight or nine players but this showed the girls
character and strength. The girls started the season with
a defeat, but they soon turned this around and won the next
three games in a row scoring plenty of goals along the way.
They signed the Club's first overseas player, Magda, from
Poland and although the results did not necessarily go their
way for the remainder of the season, we all saw an improvement
in their understanding of the game and their gameplay.
