Dynamo 4th Annual Awards Evening
Saturday 21st April 2007
Last night (Saturday 21st April 2007) saw Dynamo Girls Football
Club hold their 4th Annual Awards Presentation at Merdian
Hall in Peacehaven.
The theme for the evening was red and black to tie in with
the Club's colours and this was carried right through from
the tables and table decorations to the dress code, where
most people obliged and wore red and black.
The evening's events started with a presentation on the screen
which told the story of the 2006/7 season where it appeared
to rain and rain. The Club did lose a number of fixtures to
the poor weather, and most suprisingly were also unable to
train due to the condition of the Playing Fields.
It was then onto the Individual Player Awards where every
registered player for the 2006/7 season was invited onto the
stage to accept their award from their own Team Manager. Then
it was time for the Coach and Team Manager Awards where each
volunteer in this capacity was presented with an Award for
giving up their own time for the benefit of the Club. These
were awarded to Martin Perkins, Joe Letang, Mark Vaesen, Sarah
Mingaye, Steve Bradick, and Steve Phythian. A Special Award
was also presented to Mark Vaesen as it is with regret that
he is unable to continue coaching due to his work and family
commitments, but we wish him good luck and no doubt he will
pop back to see us from time to time.
The Club's Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Alan
Burr, for his tireless fundraising activities and the additional
organisation work he has done in respect of the Club's forthcoming
inagural tournament. Thank you Alan.
After a short break, the Special Achievement Awards were
presented. These included Awards for the Most Improved Player,
Runner-Up Player of the Season and Player of the Season for
each of the four age groups. These Awards went to Hannah Pinkus,
Chloe Evans and Amy Perkins of the Under 10's; Ocean Standen,
Jessica Trundle and Rowanna Galbraith of the Under 11's; Abbie
Whittaker, Rebecca Mason, Charly Stuart and Elle Duchossoy
of the Under 12's (there were two runner-up awards for this
age group!); Gabi Cox, Abi Stuart and Harriet McKellar for
the Under 14's. (I am doing this from memory, so apologies
if any of these are incorrect - Ruth)
The Golden Boot Award for the most goals scored per game
played went to Charly Stuart (29 goals scored in 17 appearances)
with the Runner-Up Award going to Katie Burr (30 goals scored
in 28 appearances). A new annual award was announced, which
was to be the Club Goalkeeper Award as it is often that the
goalkeeping position is often overlooked. This was awarded
to Robyn Lewin McKibben who unfortunately could not be present,
so Steve Bradick accepted it on her behalf.
Finally the last award of the evning was for the Angela Banks
Award, which is a very special award chosen specifically by
the coaching staff. It can be presented to a player for many
different reasons, but this year it was presented to May Richards
of the Under 11's particularly for her hard work in training
and matches. Well done May.
It was then time to eat and drink before the auction of some
Arsenal memorabilia (which raised £46 - thank you to
Abbie Whittaker's dad for providing it and Terry Cox for buying
it!) and then the raffle which raised over £200.
There was just time to listen to some terrible karaoke singing
(only kidding Elle!) before the evening came to a close.
A BIG thank you to Paul Cartwright who as ever worked tirelessly
to ensure that the Awards Evening was a success; Sarah Mingaye
for much of the organisation and the raffle ticket sales;
Karen & Garry McKellar, Karen's mum, Andy Mason, Sara
& Andrew Stuart, Terry Cox and Gill Duchossoy for the
buffet; Steve Phythian & family and Elaine French &
family for their help with the table decorations; Mrs Perkins
for her help with the raffle ticket folding up and anyone
else that I have forgotten.
In summary, a great evening for a great Club and to see the
look on little May Richards face when she accepted the Angela
Banks Award made all the hard work and time spent worth while,
and I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks that. Keep up
the good work girls and carry on enjoying the beautiful game.
Ruth Watson, Club Secretary
