Dynamo GFC Football Festival 2008
Sunday 11th May 2008

This weekend saw the second Dynamo Football Festival at Telscombe Playing Fields in glorious weather and this year’s event attracted over 40 teams from across Sussex. There was well over a 1,000 visitors to the ground which has been our home since our formation in 2003. As well as the main six-a-side football tournament there was a penalty shootout, face painting and a giant inflatable assault course.

Visitors also had a chance to meet Gully – the Brighton and Hove Albion mascot, the Southern FM thunders and players from Brighton and Hove Ladies who were on hand to present the winners and runners-up with their trophies.

The great thing about the Football Festival was the coming together of the football family across Sussex plus marvellous support from local businesses and organisations. Whilst we hope to raise some funds from the event, it’s of greater importance that the girls can participate in a fun event and we hopefully will encourage other youngsters to take up this superb sport.

The event was supported by a number of local organisations with Telscombe Cliffs Primary School providing the car parking, Elite Foods donating bottled water and fruit to the players, Wisden Packaging printing the programme, The Volunteer Bureau sponsoring the trophies, Watson Heath Limited (Texaco garage) for the loan of equipment and donating some superb raffle prizes and Premier Sports & Leisure for sponsoring all the officials and the Fair Play Awards.

Special thanks go to all our hard working volunteers for their efforts, not just today but over the last four months of organisation, especially the Tournament Committee comprising Paul Cartwright (Chairman), Elaine French (Secretary), Alan Burr (who organised the programme printing, refreshments and DE Photos), Paul Mungavin (for organising the marquee, toilet hire & waste collection) and Steve Phythian (for organising the fixtures & referees). Thanks also to our band of nine referees (without you it wouldn't have been possible!) and to everyone else who assisted in making the tournament a huge success including:

Control tent: Ruth, Elaine & Dan (who was invaluable!)

Refreshments: Garry & Karen McKellar (plus Karen's mum), Shelley Phythian, Dee Walder, Gill Mungavin, Nicky Evans, Paul Markham and others

Pitch marshalls: Diane Brierton, Mandi Harris, Claire Letang, Trisha Archer and others

Car Parking Duties: Adrian and Tracey Pinkus, Mark Lea and Joe Walker

General help: Terry Cox, Alan Burr, Joe Letang, Martin Perkins, Sarah Mingaye, Steve Walder, the double act of "Ria and Ella", Liam (Premier Sports) and Mrs Perks (who did a fab job on the inflatable assault course!)

I'm sure there are probably loads more, so apologies if you helped and are not included here.

Dynamo Christmas Party
Saturday 15th December 2007

The annual Christmas Party took place on Saturday afternoon at Telscombe Cive Centre. Club Chairman and coach Paul Cartwright was DJ for the afternoon whilst the players took part in a quiz which included spotting the coach from the baby photographs and matching up famous players to their shirt numbers.

There was plenty of food on hand and some of the girls took part in some karaoke, only to be shown up by the karaoke king himself, Steve W with his trusty sidekick Joe doing a unique version of Tony Christie's "Is this the Way to Amarillo".

Father Christmas arrived near the end to present all the players with a variety of Christmas presents and Abbie Walker's parents went home with the entire range of raffle prizes (only kidding Cathy!).

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the event, but a special thanks to Paul and Mandi for much of the organisation.

ASDA Bag Packing
Saturday 8th December 2007

Saturday afternoon saw hoards of volunteers from all of the age groups at Dynamo GFC attend ASDA, Brighton Marina to help shoppers pack their bags.

The Club joined together with CLIC Sargent, the childrens cancer charity, and together we raised the grand sum of £613.91 which will be split between the two organisations.

Thank you to all the players, parents and volunteers who turned up on the day to support this worthwhile cause.
